Basenji Club of Victoria Inc - Welcome to our website
The Basenji Club of Victoria [BCOV] was founded in 1966 by Mrs Lillian Barker. The Club is the oldest Basenji Club in Australia. The BCOV is dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the pure bred Basenji; an ancient and unique breed.
The BasenjiThe Basenji is a ‘natural’ breed; it has evolved and is not ‘man-made’ akin to the Australian Dingo, wolf and other ancient breeds, although not mute, the Basenji chooses not to bark, rather he yodels and has a chorus of other sounds. Used for flushing game in the Congo, the Basenji became a tenacious and fearless dog. The Basenji is extremely agile, is apt at climbing, generally has a dislike of water, is meticulously clean and has other feline characteristics. |
